New 10km road in the downstream zone of the port of Douala
Cameroon
The challenge
Construction of a new 10 km road in the downstream zone of the Port of Douala, integrating Neoloy® Geocell technology to stabilize soft soils and reduce material requirements. This pilot section demonstrated how geocells can extend road lifespan, reduce pavement thickness, and lower overall costs.
How we responded
Deployment
RoadVision deployed Neoloy® Geocell technology to build a 10 km access road in the downstream zone of the Port of Douala. This solution stabilized weak soils in mangrove areas and reduced reliance on imported aggregates. By integrating geocells into the pavement structure, we achieved a thinner, stronger, and more resilient foundation, lowering costs while ensuring long-term durability for heavy port traffic.
Results
- Up to 50% pavement thickness reduction
- Use of local fill materials
- Lower maintenance needs (lifespan up to 75 years)
- Safer and more durable port access roads
Testimonials
“The Port Authority of Douala entrusted us with building parking areas and roadways in a mangrove zone. By using Geocell technology, we were able to stabilize the soil, cut down on replacement materials, and achieve nearly 30% savings on the overall pavement cost.”
